Now that you’ve familiarized yourself, let’s get started.

1. Register and Login

Registering at Taobao is simple and easy as there is an option to make an account in English which is located at the right side of the page section (as indicated in the Taobao Homepage image above if you can’t find it).

Just click on that button and fill in your particulars and sign up with Taobao.

When signing up, you are also required to fill in your phone number as you will need a verification code, sent via SMS, to complete your registration.

Upon signing up, you will immediately be logged into your account and brought back to the Taobao Homepage. However, if for some reason you’re not automatically logged in, you may do so by clicking the log in button (as shown in the homepage image above)

The login form should look like this.

Fill in your username, email, or phone number in the first column and password in the second column.

Congratulations! You now have an official Taobao account. Let’s shop!

2. Searching for Items

Now that you have logged in, it’s time to make use of your account and fill up your shopping cart.

Choose from the list of categories located at the left side of the page. The icons on the left represents the different groups of items available, such as women’s clothing and electronics.

After that, head to the search bar at the top and type in the specific item you are searching for in English or Google-translated Chinese. Alternatively, you can also search by image, which is the smarter and more time-saving method.

To search by image, simply grab an image of the item you are interested in, then click the camera button located at the end of the search bar to upload the image.

Then click on the orange search button and conduct an image search.

A list of products will appear instantly! Now you can enjoy browsing through a large variety of available products with an amazing range of prices and variety.

A common issue you may encounter is that there are too many options to with too many prices choose from.

Here’s a solution – If you want to compare prices with other sellers, just hover the mouse over the item and start clicking on the “find similar” or “find the same” button. Now you can search for the lowest price available for your items!

When you have finally found your beloved item, add your selected products into your cart by clicking on the “Add to Cart” button and now you can move on to the next step.

Remember to make use of that handy Google translate tool located at the top right corner of the website or right-click to translate.

3. Setting the Address

Here’s a special tip – it’s best if you set your shipping address on the account management page before checking out and making a payment.

To do this, click on your username located at the top left side of the page, then translate the page to English. Go to shipping address and fill out the details accordingly.

To ship with GIMworld, simply fill in your GIMworld username, Warehouse Address, and Phone Number (all easily available at your GIMworld account “Warehouse Account” page) and click save.

Below is a translated sample of a filled in shipping address.

4. Paying for your Purchase

Go to your cart and select the items and submit your items. You will be asked to confirm the shipping address, which you’ve set prior to checking out, once you click the orange button. Just double check your shipping address and modify if there’s any error.

If you’re a first-timer, you will be asked to set a password for an Alipay account, which is a China third-party mobile and online payment platform. Enter a password of your choice (up to 6 digits) and click submit.

You can then choose to pay through internet banking or debit and credit card. However, do note that there will be a 1.5% service fee when using online transfer via revPAY. Alternatively, you can also seek an agent to help make the payment by clicking on the button at the top.
